Best of all: Tomatoes do not have to be in season for this recipe because we are using what I believe is the “secret ingredient” to this homemade salsa recipe – stewed tomatoes! Canned tomatoes are great for recipes like salsa because you can make this recipe whether tomatoes are in season or not. Tomatoes are picked during peak season to can so you know they are perfectly ripened.
Just combine tomatoes and a handful of other wholesome ingredients in a food processor to make a batch of fresh-tasting, wonderfully delicious homemade salsa in mere minutes!

How to make the best homemade salsa recipe
The only tool required for this recipe is a food processor. Then the steps to prepare this 10 minute no-cook condiment are as easy as 1-2-3! Simply…
- Wash and chop the cilantro, peel and chop the onions.
- Add all ingredients to the food processor, and pulse a few times to reach desired consistency.
- Taste, and add more salt if needed. Serve right away, or chill in the fridge until ready to enjoy.
Like chunky salsa? Pulse 5-7 times. Prefer a smoother salsa? Pulse for 15-20 times.
A note about BPA…
When buying canned tomatoes, make sure to look for brands that use BPA-free cans. BPA is a harmful toxin that can seep into your food and when digested, can have harmful effects on your health (eeek!) This is my favorite brand of canned tomatoes because they are organic tomatoes, the cans are BPA-free, and they always taste great!
Are stewed tomatoes and diced tomatoes the same?
No! Diced tomatoes are fresh tomatoes diced and canned with their juices. Stewed tomatoes are cooked and then canned. They can sometimes contain sugar or added seasonings, but you can find them without any additives. I think stewed tomatoes give this salsa recipe some extra omf because the tomatoes are slightly sweeter.
Note:Canned stewed tomatoes are found with all the other canned tomato varietiesbut if however, you cannot find them, diced tomatoes can be substituted just fine.
What to Serve with Homemade Salsa?
