Peach Dump Cake recipe with sliced peaches, white cake mix, butter, chopped walnuts, and coconut! You will not believe how easy this cake is to make!

I just love a good cake mix dump cake recipe! If you’ve never made one before, please make this one your first. Just as the name suggests, you simply “dump” the ingredients, including dry cake mix, into a baking dish and THAT’S IT. A delicious dessert ready straight from the oven!

Where can I find canned sliced peaches?

Canned sliced peaches are found in the canned fruit aisle of the grocery store. Usually near the pineapple chunks and applesauce.

What brand of white cake mix is used?

I prefer the Duncan Hines brand white cake mix, but really you could use any brand – even store brand would work!

Why is the cake mix used dry? Will the cake be dry?

Nope! The cake mix is sprinkled on top of the peaches & juice, and then drizzled butter goes on top. It’s kind of hard to believe, but as the cake bakes the wet ingredients mix with the dry cake mix and it turns out wonderful every time!

How to make peach dump cake:

Dump two cans of sliced peaches with juice in the bottom of a baking dish sprayed with non stick spray. Sprinkle the DRY cake mix evenly over the peaches and juice.

Tips for making peach dump cake:

  • It may be tempting, but DO NOT MIX anything in this cake! It will bake up just fine, I promise. 🙂
  • If the topping is getting too brown, lay a sheet of foil over the cake during the last 10 minutes of baking.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before serving. The peaches and juice at the bottom get quite hot!

I’m kind of disappointed. This “cake” did not rise at all, it seems. Although it is tasty, it has to be eaten in a bowl, probably with ice cream, now. I may try baking it an additional few more minutes than the recommended 35, to see if it might improve, but it is ruined. Possibly maybe my oven wasn’t preheated enough? I don’t know. Not really cake-y enough for my liking. Sorry. In theory, it’s a great idea & I will try it again, with a yellow cake mix. This white Betty Crocker one, one I bought from the Dollar Store. Maybe that makes a difference?

Typically, “dump cakes” like this one come out more like a cross between a cobbler and a cake – so sometimes a bowl is necessary. You could try refrigerating the cake, that will help it hold together more. And yes, I’ve used dollar store cake mix (even name brand) and for some reason they don’t work as well. Maybe they’re older and that’s why they’re at the dollar store? Try it again with the yellow cake mix and see what you think!
