It was so wonderful hosting the 12 News (KPNX-TV, NBC) Water Watch Takeover at the Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA. I was proud to represent the Valley of the Sun YMCA alongside the Gilbert Fire Department, Phoenix Children's and Amazon.com. Thanks Shelbi Schmidt Elise Nilles Austin Olsen, Ryan Knak , Garrett Brolsma, Kelli, Brenda Nichols, Daisy Sanchez, a very flexible and professional team of lifeguards who kept everyone safe, and the entire Ahwatukee Y team. Very special thanks to Tram Mai, Emma Jade, meteorologist, Ginger Jeffries, and the legendary Dave Munsey for taking time to share about the Y’s aquatics programs and for spreading awareness, and Mayor Kate Gallego for taking time out of a very busy schedule to encourage everyone, everywhere to practice safety around water. Thank you, too, Judd Slivka!

Despite the overcast skies and light rain, we were delighted to welcome Vanessa Ramirez and the team from 12 News (KPNX-TV, NBC) and Arizona Midday to the Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA for a comprehensive discussion on water safety with our expert, Shelbi Schmidt. From essential ABCs of Water Safety to emergency response techniques, the segment will highlight vital information for safely enjoying water activities this Summer. Mark your calendars for April 15, and tune into Arizona Midday.

It's been a great week for me at Valley of the Sun YMCA with some great media wins and the whimsical experience of attending and covering our 2024 Triangle Awards. It's always a great pleasure collaborating with my teammates, especially Elise Nilles who makes doing Marcom work at events even MORE fun than it already is.

Volunteerism is often the lifeblood of any strong nonprofit organization, and at the Valley of the Sun YMCA we are no different. Our dedicated volunteers are crucial to the success of so much of what we do. Today, I had the privilege of popping in to see my good friend and illustrious boss, Ryan Knak present on the importance of volunteerism to a group of fresh Y thinkers. I am so proud to exist in this organization and to work alongside such an awesome guy!

Relationship building is one of my favorite parts of my work at the Valley of the Sun YMCA, and I was thrilled to welcome one of my favorites, Kylee Cruz of Arizona's Family, to the Lincoln Family Downtown YMCA this morning to speak with another of my favorites, VP of Childcare Kirsten Gray, about the Y's Summer Day Camp offerings. For all my fellow professionals with young ones looking for something exciting and enriching to do this Summer, I encourage you to consider the wide range of programs offered at our Y!

One of the best things about my job at Valley of the Sun YMCA, outside of getting to do it every day, is the opportunity to share about it with those who are new to the Y and to educate them on how they can be part of the PR process. So many of the amazing stories I get to share come from those working on the front lines at our branches and the many programs we offer. Indeed, it does take a village and I am so privileged to be a part of this one.

I find it helpful to reflect at the start of each week. One of the highlights of last week for me was spending Friday with the Marcom team at Valley of the Sun YMCA. I feel truly blessed to work alongside this dynamic and talented team, led by Ryan Knak. Here's to another amazing week!
